The park Capanne of Marcarolo, established in 1979, is located in mountainous
appennino ligure-piedmont, the air is dominated by the massive pyramid of Mount Tobbio,
extends over 8200 hectares at an altitude between 335m.s.l. and 1173 m.s.l.

Thanks to its geographical location is
characterized by a diversity climate
which allows the coexistence of vegetation
alpine and mediterranean.
Infact, the area offers a a ladscape of alternating
bare and arid, with herbaceous
vegetation and shrub,
and other fresh and moist with woods and forest
oak, beech tree, pear corvine, 
maritime pine, black pine and spruce.
In the park lots of paths are marked by the F.I.E.
(Federation Italian Walker)

Inside the park there is the Shrine
of Benedicta, who recalls the tragic
massacre of partisans in 1944.

In the area are still evident some galleries with auriferous
quartz veins due to old gold mines.
Rich in rivers and reservoirs like Lemme,
Gorzente, Lavagnina to name the most important.

The park is favorable habitat for a wide species of animals, wild boars, foxes, badgers, dormice,
deer, stone marten, hare.

In the streams it's possible to find the Fario trout and freshwater crayfish, crustacean now rare. Moreover, being located on a migration route, there are many species of nesting birds, which deserves a particular interest the Biancone, bird of prey at risk of extincion, a symbol of the potected area of the park.
